COBRA Insurance Coverage

COBRA coverage is a Federal law that requires certain employers to offer ex-employees and their dependents the opportunity to continue their coverage under the company’s group health plan. In effect, the insurance coverage is the same coverage the individual had prior to the qualifying event.

If your company employed 20 or more employee during the previous calendar year, you are likely subject to COBRA Insurance coverage provisions and must take action to make certain your company is COBRA compliant.  A big part of compliance is communicating to employee the COBRA Insurance benefits available to them.

There are a number of ways for your company to get into compliance with COBRA regulations.  You may consider outsourcing your COBRA administration responsibilities to a third party.  While expensive, this is often an excellent choice for larger companies with high-turnover.

Medium- sized employers may consider one of the many COBRA software programs on the market.  Your Human Resources department should be prepared to spend plenty of time learning these often complex programs.

An excellent choice for smaller employers (less than 150 employees) with moderate turnover and COBRA activity is CobraAid. CobraAid specializes in helping employers with in-house COBRA administration.

Our COBRA software, up-to-date notices, and e-mail support for your COBRA questions are all designed to help your company get COBRA compliant.
